We’re almost halfway through our 40 Days of Prayer, and we’re so grateful for your prayers and support as we move toward our 60th summer of camp!
This is definitely our busy season—decisions need to be made, and plans are quickly becoming reality. There’s less time for “What ifs?” and more time for action. In the midst of the busyness, I find myself returning to the rhythms that keep me rooted in Christ. Yes, “I learned it at camp”—how to begin my day with God, spending time in His Word and in His presence, and how to end each day with gratitude and reflection.
Recently, my mom reminded me (thanks, Mom!) that camp is designed to be a place set apart from the “real world”—with less noise and fewer distractions. But if we’re not careful, we can bring our “go go go” energy right into camp: “Hurry up and get to the next activity!” “Get your swimsuit on, it’s time for sailing!” If we’re not intentional, campers could go home without experiencing the deep peace that camp is meant to offer.
“That’s why camp has so many roots in the ground,” my mom said wisely. The roots on our trails—which we’re always warning campers not to trip over—remind us to slow down and live at a gentler pace. And if we let them, they’ll help keep us rooted in Christ.
What might seem like a hindrance to moving quickly, I pray God will use to help us all slow down—so we can truly enjoy His presence, His creation, and His peace this summer.
Can’t wait!
