We Will Tell the Next Generation

EVERY COUNSELOR HAS MADE A COMMITMENT TO YOUR DAUGHTER

Camp Cedarbrook in the Adirondacks recruits committed Christian young women, who love God and enjoy working with children. Each counselor is devoted to nurturing your camper’s faith in Christ, building her skills, and guiding her friendships.

Every counselor, staff member and volunteer is carefully screened in order to create a safe and positive experience for campers. The rigorous hiring process includes a reference check, a background check, and an interview. Every counselor and staff member attends approximately two weeks of pre-camp training, which includes fine-tuning their skills in counseling and group dynamics, activity area specialties, and safety procedures. All counselors and staff supervising high-risk activities (for example, archery, boating, riflery, and swimming) have met strict American Camping Association certification standards.

Camp Cedarbrook counselors are mature young women who have completed at least one year of college and are 18 years old or older. Many of our counselors and staff have grown up with us as campers and have completed our Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program. They understand every aspect of camp life from personal experience—one of the major reasons why Camp Cedarbrook is such a special place. Our counselors and staff forms a strong, committed team with a single focus: a safe summer filled with learning, fun, and spiritual growth for each camper.

“Cedarbrook is a place where she feels unconditionally loved by the staff, and it fills her with such joy that she talks about it all year long to anyone who will listen.”

Camper Mom

Amy "Ellie" Culhane, Executive Director

I am honored to serve Camp Cedarbrook as the Executive Director since October 2015. Having attended Camp Cedarbrook every summer growing up (starting with father/daughter weekend all the way through the CILT program), I can honestly say that camp changed my life. The friendships I made and the impact it had on my spiritual formation and leadership development remain with me to this day.

Before returning to camp, I served in the development office at Wheaton College (my alma mater) for seven years. When I’m not at camp, I live in Chicago, Illinois with my husband, Brendon and our son, Owen (who arrived during our camp season in 2016!).

Megan "Rory" Maiello, Assistant Director

This summer will mark my 15th year on staff at Camp Cedarbrook! In addition to my years as a camper, my CILT training and my years on staff, God has truly blessed me through camp. The many friendships and my spiritual growth have been the two most significant things to come from my years at Cedarbrook and I couldn't talk more about how much it has made me a better person. When I came on staff full time in 2013, it was something I thought would never happen, but it was an exciting surprise!

Other than working for camp year-round, I also teach Criminal Justice part time at Bronx Community College in New York City. I live in Northern New Jersey during the year and love visiting the many churches in the trip-state area!

Staff Screening

Every counselor, staff member and volunteer is carefully screened in order to create a safe and positive experience for campers. The rigorous hiring process includes a reference check, a background check, and an interview. Every counselor and staff member attends approximately two weeks of pre-camp training, which includes fine-tuning their skills in counseling and group dynamics, activity area specialties, and safety procedures. All counselors and staff supervising high-risk activities (for example, archery, boating, riflery, and swimming) have met strict American Camping Association certification standards.

Our staff are trained in child abuse prevention and we have policies in place to protect campers. Staff follow the “rules of threes” and are never alone 1-1 with a camper out of sight or sound from other campers and staff.

The Value of ACA Accreditation

Read more about why it is important to maintain our American Camp Association accreditation.

"Being able to be part of a staff that prays for each other as well as works together to accomplish a unified goal is an amazing opportunity. I am thankful for every summer that I'm able to come back to camp. The staff are family by the time it hits August. They're your coworkers, friends, fellow brainstormers, shoulder to cry on, comedic relief, and so much more."

Camp Cedarbrook staff are people who love God, love camp, and love being with campers. They are a lot of fun and also easy to talk to. Many of our counselors have grown up with us as campers and many have finished the Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program, but every summer new staff join us and quickly fit right in. Our staff forms a strong, committed team with a single focus: a safe summer filled with learning, fun, and spiritual growth for each camper.

Does Camp Cedarbrook sound like the place for you? We are seeking Godly women who can be counseling staff, support staff in the office and kitchen, registered nurses, and volunteers. Whatever your gift and passion, please contact us. We can't do this ministry without you!
